Annie Oakley was born on August 13, 1860, in Ohio. Her father died when she was five years old. She was good at shooting from a very young age and when she was fifteen, she started shooting in competitions.She was working with Frank Butler and one day she was in competition with him and he lost! They got married on June 22, 1876. Than they travelled round the country and did shows and he taught Annie to shoot a ten cent coin.In 1885 Frank and Annie joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. They stayed in for seventeen years. Annie shot a cigarette from Frank’s mouth. The show went in Europe in 1887. Annie and Frank then left Buffalo Bills Wild west show to do ‘The Oakley and Butler Shooting Show’ in Europe’s biggest cities. They went back to USA later.In 1901, Annie got hurt in a train accident. But after some time she got back in work again. Than in 1914-18 war, Annie and Frank taught soldiers to shoot. She died on November 3, 1926 and Frank died three weeks later.Naturally, many stories grew about Annie’s shooting ability, some of them rather exaggerated. Her tricks and talent was breathtaking and people really enjoyed watching them perform together.
